How to reduce noise of a metal roof
by Coroofs
Over the years we found that one of the most common questions, and sometimes even concerns about metal roofing, is the noise. Often people are considering using a metal roof, but are afraid that it may be noisy when it rains or in case of a strong wind.
We have a lot of people who want to use the metal tile roof due to its superior qualities like light weight and strength, but would like to know how if there is a way to reduce the noise of the rain.
I would like to say that one of the most common and perhaps easiest ways to reduce the noise is to use the insulating blanket installed under the metal roofing sheets.
The insulating roof blanket is usually 55 mm thick and has a foil base. The blanket is made of thick insulating materials (mineral blanket) and comes in rolls of around 18 sq.m.
It works best when installed on top of the roof battens touching the roofing iron with its fluffy side and foil side looking down. This way it provides not only insulation, but also great noise reduction as well. It absorbs heat and noise acting as a buffer and provides a great and not expensive solution.
Insulating blanket is one of the cheapest products on the market at the moment and is easy to install.
You can find it at www.coroofs.com.au/products
It can be used for the carports as well see at www.easytiledcarports.com.au
Roofers Should Use Metal Roofing Materials
In recent times, the advantages of using metal roofing materials have been discovered by both home builders and home owners. The number of people using these materials has risen in the last ten years and the demand has caused the increased distribution of these materials on the marketplace.
The materials are not to be confused with the tin barn roofs that were used in the past. Home owners are choosing materials for a number of reasons. It can last for a very long time and will completely prevent water from entering the house. This type of roofing can withstand the ravages of high wind and snow. It is completely resistant to mildew, fire, insects and rot and has earned for it the distinction of a very good warranty.
The reason for the great warranty is because the manufacturing companies know that their product is excellent and will last from 20 to 50 years. The product is very light. The weight of the roofing is much lighter when compared to both tile and concrete forms of roofing.
Because of the lightness of the metal roof, it can be applied right over the traditional roofing, without first removing the original roofing. This adds strength to the whole structure. These metal roofing materials are easily installed. The fast installation means that licensed contractors will spend very little time on the installation process. This ease of installation works to your advantage in the situation where you may want a quick roof installation prior to a large storm coming.
The time required is usually only about one or two days. The metal roofing materials is non-combustible. This type of roofing has been given a class A rating for being non-combustible. It is wise to verify with your contractor, if your roof will be non-combustible under intense heat.
Because of the light color of the metal roofing, light is reflected off the surface and much less heat will actually enter the home as a result of this. This lessons the amount of heat that enters the heat at midday. With the metal roofing, a pocket of dead-air space wedged between the roof deck and the metal will serve to maximize the energy efficiency.
It is good to know the disadvantages of metal roofing materials. This roofing material cost from $150 to $600 per square. Another disadvantage is that this type of roof is noisy – think of the sound of the rain falling on the roof. Not everyone will think of that sound as romantic. It may be totally irritating to some people. So with the metal roofing you will have a noisier roof as compared to more traditional roofing materials. By using certain roofing materials containing structural barriers, it is possible to minimize the noise of the rain on the metal roof.
The most common metal roofing materials used today are: aluminum – this choice is popular among home owners as it minimizes the sound of the rain; copper – though it is expensive it does not rust like aluminum; stainless steel – this is very expensive but will neither corrode or rust: alloys – these materials have strength is durable and weathers very well; steel – this is heavier that aluminum and has the look of slate.
This variety of materials will provide anyone with a choice that will suit their roofing needs.

The Basics of Roofing Materials – A Quick Overview of What’s Important
Homeowners understand that great roofing is the most excellent safeguard for a house. A roof helps to keep out wind, rain, snow, hail, and the sun’s rays. On the other hand, understanding when to restore a roof and with what kind of roofing material is generally a complex choice.
A new roof is a huge asset and it’s one of the most considerable things you can make for the shelter and overall worth of your residence. To achieve this, a roof’s exterior must be leak-proof and tough in addition to flexible enough to adapt to heat changes with no cracking or otherwise losing its stability. Shingles come in numerous designs and are made of many diverse materials. They differ in their coating materials and style, but the vast majority roofs are made up of wood framing, flashing wood, roofing felt, and the surface roofing material. Many homes presently have contemporary asphalt shingles that are available in many versions that give various looks in the shape of architectural shingles. There are also accessible from roofing manufacturers different roofing systems such as steel roofing, copper roofing, slate roofing and composite roofing systems.
A good deal of homeowners prefer metal roofing, which offers outstanding long-term protection, or slate roofing, which gives a pleasant artistic exterior. Most property owners only wish to purchase a roof that is durable, safe, long lasting and requires little to none maintenance. However, a majority of the roofs are replaced or fixed every ten years. Despite the fact that this is so, after studying and carefully deciding on your home’s roofing material, you can reduce costs and expense by decreasing the cost of replacement and repair. Not only is this beneficial, but finding the excellent type of roofing materials, you’ll consume less building material, fill up less landfill space with unwanted material, and put less demand on our exhausted natural resources.
An additional alternative that you are going to want to take into factor when deciding on roofing materials is how well they will fully stand up to the elements. Every single roof covering is going to tolerate the elements differently so it is essential to pick materials that will tolerate the climate that they will be used in. Metal roofing materials are often used on homes in areas that get a lot of snow because they permit the snow to slide off the roof, decreasing the risk of the roof collapsing. Corrugated fiberglass roofing is also a excellent choice for snowy climates, however for homes in very dry or desert areas it may not be the best choice because it has a tendency to wear down faster when used in these types of environments.
Whether you end up using metal roofing materials, corrugated, tin, or some other type of material you are sure to end up with a roof that will be resilient and long lasting as long as you do your research when picking roofing materials. Each unique system has got its own list of pros and cons and only you can decide on which material is going to be the most proper for the project that you are trying to get started. The Benefits of Metal Roofing Over Tiled Roofing
By Greg Hughey
For years Brisbane utilized tile roofs, and when they first came out were a plausible option for a Brisbane homeowner. Since those times, nature has not been so kind to the clay and concrete tiled roofs. The natural composition of tiled roofs plays a huge factor in their early demise. Both clay and concrete tiles are very porous meaning water causes eventual wear and tear on them resulting in costly repairs. After rain, heat and throw in freezing, the tile roofing eventually cracks under the pressure. Water traps in the pores of the tiles and then when exposed to the heat of the sun bearing down on them, they dry out only to be followed up with repeated abuse of re-absorption of water through further rainfalls and cold and warm conditions. The repeated expanding and reduction effect due to environmental factors cause clay and cement tiles to crack and break. Broken tiles on a roof leave the rest of the home exposed to serious water damage.
Tiles admittedly give a home a quaint look, but their efficiency is less then desirable for any wise homeowner. Metal roofing offers a lot more in durability as well as being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. In looking at the environmental factor alone, metal-roofing pays for itself ten fold over in what it saves the consumer in repairs alone and is worth considering if you need a roof replacement.
Why Metal Roofing is a better alternative over old fashioned Title Roofing
Metal roofing can last the lifetime of a home. Repairs are minimal and are generally due to homeowner inflicted damage such as when attaching solar panels or other hardware on the rooftop. A metal roof is so durable it can withstand winds up to 190 kms per hour with no lift up. Even severe hailstorms cannot phase metal roofing, unlike the severe damage a hail or windstorm can do to tile roofing. Brisbane homeowners can even benefit from having a metal roof over a tile roof through insurance deductions, yet another cost effective reason to have metal roofing.
After a tile roof has been laid and finished it can still move as the house settles and as a result tiles can crack or cause the bedding to crack or even look crooked the naked eye. Unlike a tile roof, when you screw down a new metal roof you will find your new roof will not move. As a result your home will have better structural integrity.
Here’s why Metal roofing is more durable than titled roofing
With metal roofing, you never have to worry about chipping, rusting, fading or chalking. The colours do not fade no matter how hard the sun beats down on the roof. The heat reflective facet of metal roofing saves the Brisbane homeowner money through its energy saving factor. Not only does a metal roof save a homeowner a ton of money they also come in a wide variety of colours and styles to meet any homeowners taste setting the home apart from the rest of the block.
Greg Hughey owns and operates Metal Technology Roofing a business dedicated to metal roofing and asbestos removal Brisbane.
Greg has over 25 years of hands on experience with metal roofing and understands the benefits of metal roofing over old fashioned tiled roofing.

I’ve got a tiled roof that I want to replace. Can I use Metal Tiles?
The metal tile roofing sheets are a lot lighter. One square meter of the metal tile sheets would weight around 3.5 – 3.8 kg in the same time 1 sq.m. of concrete tiles would weight around 40-50 kg. So the roof will be lighter therefore less pressure on the framework and less possibilities for cracks and saging.
Metal tile roofing sheets come in long run and will have fewer joints, meaning less possible leaks.
Tin tile sheets can be installed on a low pitch roof starting from 6 deg, so you can install them when convensional tiles can not be used.
Metal tile roof is stronger then concrete tiles and will not break when it hails.
The steel rof tiles have fixings with screws and can be used for the areas with strong winds and cyclons.
And with all of those benefits you will keep this amasing tiled look for your roof.

How to make most out your gazebo project
Last few week we were bombarded with questions related to the gazebo projects. Personally I like the idea of having a nice drink under a beautiful gazebo with a couple of best friends.
Gazebo is usually a relatively small covered area (3000 X 3000 mm or 3000 X 4000 mm etc.) that is build on the backyard, next to a pool or barbecue area. Often it has got a timber frame or timber look frame. The roof can be Gable or Hip, sometimes Hexagonal or Octagonal.
In any case the idea is to make it looking nice and lasting long and having as little maintenance as possible.
From this perspective we can highly recommend Metal Tile Roofing for this kind of projects.
The Metal Tile roofing sheets are light in weight, strong and weather resistant. They are made of 0.42-0.45 mm high quality long run roofing steel and get installed with regular screws.
The Steel Roof tiles are zinc coated and polyester coated on top of the paint for the long lasting life.
Some gazebos are supplied with hay roof. They usually look nice when they are new but soon you realize that the herbal roof looses the bits everywhere including your pool and in few months the roof will look old and bold.
Unlike the hay roof the Metal tiles do not disintegrate in the first year and are low maintenance.
But most importantly the Tin Tiles look like Terracotta Tiles when installed. That makes the whole project looking great and adding value to your place.
One more benefit of metal tile roof is that it is suitable for DIY projects and you can do it yourself to save few dollars on installation.

Metal Tiles for Your House
When it come to doing up one’s home, tiles are the most commonest items that have been around for quite some time. Until recently, it was only glass or ceramic tile that was mostly used and easily accessible, affordable and easy to maintain.
With the economic growth and the increase in the earning potential of the customers the will and the capacity to spend on decent and classy homes has increased. Things which are out of fashion or out of date do not attract people because they want their living spaces to be different and classic. The metal wall and roof tile has attracted everybody’s attention. The different metals that are used for this purpose are copper, bronze, zinc and steel. Decorative hand carved copper tiles are very popular in entryway tiled floors, kitchen back splashes, bathroom tiled floors etc.,
Home improving projects will be a huge success with stainless steel tiles as they are smooth, radiant, innovative and contemporary. They come in a variety of colors and finishes. Appearances apart durability and maintenance are not at all an issue with a thicker steel tile. A stainless steel back splash is most recommended as it is sleek and shiny in appearance, apart from the durability and maintenance aspect. However steel is restricted to silver color only and it becomes monotonous with the passage of time.
As is the case with stainless steel the metal back splash is equally durable and easy to clean. It can be used as a counter top also because it is resistant to heat; the only precaution you need to take here is that acidic things like vinegar or tomatoes should not be placed for a longer time as the shine would fade off. Metal tiles made up of zinc are a lesser known but another beautiful, elegant and stunning option. Zinc is germicidal and hence its use in the bathrooms and kitchen is an excellent option.
Metal tiles are very affordable on the whole though there are a few that are very expensive depending upon the design and pattern. They come in a variety of colors and are made from different metals from real iron base metal to brass and copper. There is another very good option and that is recycled metal tiles which not only add versatility and design to your bathroom or kitchen but are also eco friendly. The commonest use of tile made from metal is as an accent to the rest of the decor. Tiles made from metal can be used as a focal point or mural, especially in kitchens, they can also be used as fillers.
Another use of these metal tiles can be found in the roofs. Metal tile roofs have doubled in the past 5 years with a growth rate of about 15% annually. It gives you a longer life because it is anti-rusting, does not corrode, saves about 40% of energy, does not require a lot of maintenance and can be recycled when damaged so it is eco friendly. Finally while all these options in metal tiles and roofs are a bit expensive but they give you a home that many would be envious of. They last long, are maintenance free, colorful and unique.

Metal Tile Roofing
By Anthony Lee
Metal tile roofing has doubled in the past five years with a growth rate of about 15% annually. This is because the material itself is more capable of protecting your home against destructive weather conditions.
To prove that, studies have shown that it can last at least two to three times longer than an asphalt roof. That is about 40 to 60 years. Since it is also given anti-rusting treatment, it will not corrode.
The world is well aware of climate change. Another benefit of it is that when it is damaged, it can by recycled and used again. This means it is environment friendly and is good to have either in your home or in your office. Unlike wood or other traditional materials used for roofing, it is not prone to insects, mold or rot so you do not have to apply any harmful chemicals that could damage the environment.
Having it for your home also saves energy. This means you can reduce the cooling costs by almost 40% together with the help of reflective paints that have energy saving properties. But of course, this still depends where you live. The paint used in it reflects instead of absorbing the sun’s rays so less heat enters the structure.
It does not require a lot of maintenance. You just have to go up there and sweep away accumulated leaves or other debris and inspect the roof top ancillaries and air conditioners to be sure that it is properly drained and supported.
You also save money when it is time to pay your income tax thanks to the US energy Policy Act of 2005. This allows homeowners a tax credit when they decide to use it in their homes as long as they meet the Energy Star program requirements. It is available in different colors. This means you will be able to find one that matches the color of your walls. If you want to change it, you don’t have to replace the entire thing but simply paint over the old color.
Should you decide to get metal tile roofing, make sure you get a warranty from the manufacturer. Steel vendors who comply with such regulations put coil numbers on each item so you and they will know when exactly were the metal purchased. If this is not present, you have no protection even if they say that such a warranty exists.

Metal Tiles Vs Colorbond
By http://metaltileroofingsheets.blogspot.com
Good question is what is better? Colorbond or Metal Tiles.
The answer is: there is market for each of them.
Metal Tiles are great for any extensions, renovations or home additions when you have already a tiled roof over the main part of the building. In this case you would like to match your new extension roof with existing tiled roof. Metal tiles would be the perfect solution for it.
First the metal tile roofing sheets are light and therefore do not require a heavy frame (unlike concrete tiles). So you can start saving cost right there.
Secondly the metal tile roofing sheets can be installed on any roof with a pitch starting from 5 deg. (unlike conventional tiles that require pitch of 17 deg), so you can use metal tiles on a lot of low pitch projects.
Metal tiles come in a number of colours to match your existing colour.
The profile of metal tiles will match well a large number of known tile profiles.
Metal tiles are strong and weather resistant and provide a perfect roofing solution for any wind areas.
Finlay the metal tile roofing sheets are easy to install and in a lot of cases are installed by the owner-builders.
Roof Tiles Materials Choices
A roof offers protection from the rain, snow and sun. It keeps the heat in during the winter and out during the summer. Approximately 10 percent of the cost of construction goes into the roof of a typical home. Roof tiles materials are available in many price ranges. Slate roofing is the most expensive, but it lasts the longest. Slate roofs can be seen on the famous Biltmore House in North Carolina and on Buckingham Palace in England. Slate is environmentally friendly, because it is a natural product. Asphalt roofing shingles are made from a petroleum by-product and make up over 80 percent of all roofing sold. They are inexpensive and come in a wide variety of colors. A reflective asphalt shingle has been developed that is designed to reduce cooling costs by reflecting infrared light.
Concrete roof tiles are another economical roof tiles materials. Concrete tiles or lightweight concrete shakes are often recommended in windy areas. They can sustain winds over 125 miles per hour that would strip off other materials. They typically last for the lifetime of the home, which is often in excess of 100 years. Concrete is environmentally friendly because it is made from abundant natural materials and does not use chemicals in the production process. It can be designed to look like clay, wood or slate, and the surface can be textured or smooth. Concrete tiles also have the highest fire rating, Class A, which is required by most building codes.
There are other roof tiles materials that have the highest fire rating. Metal roofing materials, especially a standing seam metal roof, are excellent in areas subject to high fire danger. Steel shingles may last 50 years with proper insulation and an appropriate underlayment or moisture barrier. Steel roofing that is coated with zinc and aluminum alloy may have 3 to 4 times the life of galvanized steel. Aluminum is an extremely lightweight metal for roofing but it must be painted or zinc coated. Copper may be the most expensive material, but it will not rust and has an estimated 200 to 300 year lifespan. It ages beautifully to a natural blue green patina. The historic Christ Church in Philadelphia has a copper roof, and it dates back to before the Revolutionary War. Also, the Statue of Liberty is made of copper and has been standing in New York Harbor since 1886.
There are almost endless choices when shopping for roof tiles materials. A simple flat roof repair may be inexpensive and easy for the homeowner to do himself. A complete roof replacement estimate will involve hiring a reputable contractor and perhaps a specialty roofing contractor. Still, there is always an affordable choice for the homeowner.

Metal Tile Roofing – Discover the Benefits!
If you enjoy the look of slate roofs, cedar shake roofs or the signature Mediterranean clay tiles, but do not have it within your budget to use these particular materials, consider the option of metal tile roofing. There has been an amazing explosion of styles, colors and textures in the manufacturing of these particular roofing elements.
You can now have the look you want for a smaller investment than that required for the actual slate, wood or clay. Although more costly than the traditional asphalt, metal provides qualities not found in the less expensive alternatives.
Metal tile roofing is mainly made of one of the following – aluminum, steel or copper. Your prices are affected by which material you choose as well as by the intricacy of the design pattern. Looking at one individual tile will not allow you get the overall feel of the roof surface.
You should be able to view pictures or samples containing a larger section. This will give you the “picture” created by the assembly of the individual tiles. It may be quite different than what you expect. It is better to see this now than later when a whole section of your roof has been completed!
One of the best qualities of metal tile roofing is the durability. Asphalt, which is still used on 90% of the homes in the country, has an expected life of 15 to 30 years. Metal, on the other hand is often guaranteed by warranty to last 50 years or longer! One thing to be careful about is the installation. Your professional contractor should be a specialist in this type of work.
They must follow the manufacturer’s instructions exactly in order for you to benefit from the warranty. There are often stringent criteria for underlayment, flashing, preparation of the surface and the like that they must abide by to fulfill the requirements.
Metal tile roofing is better at resisting the harshness and extremes of the elements than the more often applied asphalt. The coatings are designed to reduce energy use within the home by reflecting the heat of the sun. This will help offset the initial investment by avoiding costly repairs while saving you money over the course of time.
These tiles are also better at retaining their color and finish than other roofing materials. The use of these materials will enhance the appearance and value of your home for years to come .
